LESSON 1 - WHAT IS SINGLE CAMERA PRODUCTION

TASK 1

Task 1: Understanding 'single camera production'

a)   Define 'single camera production':

It is a mode of production where one camera operates at a time and the shots are done in the most economically efficient order, single camera productions are not live and include a lot of editing and takes.

b) Identify the advantages and disadvantages of single camera production (refer to examples where you can):

Advantages

  •             It is cheaper because it only uses one camera.
  •         You have more control over the lighting and sound for each shot taken.
  •        It is more flexible for the actors as they don't have to constantly be on set at the same time as other actors.
  •       It is a Good technique if you have limited space on set.

Disadvantages

  •         It takes a lot longer for the crew to set it up.
  •         The reactions of the actors are less natural as the actors are not interacting with each other as only one shot is filmed at a time.
  •            This form of production also requires a lot of repetition meaning that a shot needs to be repeated 3 times to get each angle  as once again you can only get one at a time.
  •           There is a much longer editing time as you end up spending more time in the editing suite.
